sevysev: Time for another Carlyle acting analysis. Watch his face. In the beginning he’s on the verge of sobbing. Look at his head; it slightly pulls forward, he’s swallowing his tears, shoving them down before he can start whimpering and whining like a dying animal. His face is a mask of pain, knowing his only plan of finding his son, the plan he’s been working on his entire life, over 200 years at least, has completely and utterly fallen apart. He can’t leave the town to find Baelfire. Not only do we see total vulnerability and hopelessness in his face, we see agony. His whole body slumps, he’s tired of waiting, tired of failing and most certainly above all else tired of living every day without his son. Then watch him; he looks down, considering, he turns his head, all sadness gone—he’s already scheming, plotting something new. That fast, he’s erased all of his pain and emotions, something he’s far too used to doing, and he’s focused on getting his son back once more. He’s spent his whole life leaping over hurdles and playing chess with everyone around him with the sole intent of recovering his son. Already he’s twelve steps ahead of everyone else, within that split second from inconsolable sadness to the birth of a new idea, his entire outlook has changed. Perhaps, to get the most important person in the world to him back, he can’t simply pack a few maps and leave town, leave everyone behind him. Rumpelstiltskin Jerk-Face, Douchey move…

so Rumpel is Bringing Magic Back (Justin Timberlake back up vocals: Yeah!) My Immediate response is “WHAAAAAAT AN ASSSSSSHOLE!” BUT… but… can you blame him?

Has he given up on Bae? Is he CHOOSING magic over his feels… my answer: NAY! But he seriously believes that he needs magic to find Bae at this time.

Exhibit A) The waiting strategy: Did he have the hope that Bae would somehow be DRAWN to Storybrooke? The space time continuum conundrum is wonky; maybe Bae would have popped up in SB around the same time and he has taken care to get to know every face and connection in SB to make sure (Gold; he’s in yur house, collect’n the monies!). Then up pops a candidate, at last,only to be revealed that the Bae-imposter is just trying to use him. That had to be DEVASTATING. Walls are up, and a change in strategy is needed. A drastic one.

  Exhibit B) Running out of time: The savior is coming close to breaking the curse, all because that stupid little boy had to play the hero, leaving little time to cook something elaborate up that isn’t a last resort. For even though he wants Emma to break MOST of the curse (enough so that he could get out of SB to find son), she can’t break ALL of it or else everyone returns to FTL (Emma asked Henry “What’s going on? Why aren’t they returning?” and Henry is at a loss: this confirms what will happen to FTL people once the curse is entirely at an end). So he turns to his backup plan, the “rainy day solution” to help him race time.

Exhibit C) Rumpelstiltskin says what he means: He told fake-Bae that he would never choose power again since he had found his son and willingly handed the dagger over to be destroyed. NOT AN ACT. I truly believe he meant it… but then the whole reveal forced the walls up and hardened him a bit (can you blame him??? imagine being dragged through the hot coals of feels, feeling exposed and vulnerable all to finally prove that you choose LOVE and not selfishness… only to find out that the person you’re baring your heart to is an IMPOSTER… an imposter that wants to use you for the power that you’re trying to spurn… WALLS UP AND NEVER LET ANYTHING IN EVER EVER AGAIN…EVER). I also believe that the true love bottled power was truly for a last resort; he says this twice with the “rainy day” comment… meaning that it was a safety-net… but not THE intended goal. The goal is to find Bae. However, if the Savior turned out to be a dud and he had to take matters into his own hands, it was good to know that he had that power in a golden egg… in a pissed off dragon… in an abandoned library… (every small town should have one).

Conclusion: Rumpel has grown, has learned, and still (and always will) has the concern of finding a Bae at the forefront of his mind. Everything, EVERYTHING he has devised or plotted has been a mere step in getting closer to that goal. Unleashing magic into a “Land Without Magic” was a strategy changer, not the ultimate goal, to accelerate the process of finding Bae (because the freaking savior almost ruined everything with a wicked awesome kiss of true love; game changer). I mean did you SEE how much of a sloppy hurry he was in to open that egg and his look of relief to see the potion still intact? No smirk that says “It’s all part of my super awesome evil plan. No big.” That was a look of last hope… Rumpelstiltskin has a habit of acting irrationally when it comes to his feels for the people he loves… enough to make BIG mistakes that he comes to regret later. So yeah, he unleashes magic… because he is convinced it is the last hope for a reunion with Bae.

Downside: …magic is seductive to him… when he doesn’t have it, he thinks he can use it for good (save the frontland children, protect Bae, FIND Bae)… but when he HAS it… he’s kinda drunk with it, possessed.Someone said that maybe the price of his magic wielding is a destructive obsession that drives those he loves away. That is so head-canon to me…

So yeah, just some food for thought. If I were in his place, I don’t know if I would have done anything differently…

Question about Rumple’s “Change of heart”…?

So… Rumpelstiltskin makes the Curse so he can get to Bae… and wants to prove to Bae that he chooses Bae over magic… and yet doesn’t bottling “love” and making sure that Emma will bring magic to our world kind of… yah know… contradict that sentiment? Or did he ensure that Emma would be the savior merely to make sure that the Curse would be destroyed  once he crossed over; cleaning up his own mess if you will?

What do you think? Is it his plan to STILL cling to the power once he finds Bae even though he has claimed to have learned his lesson (theory is he can’t lie but he lied to Belle about the whole “old woman selling flowers”)… or has he really changed his ways… (highly doubtful… I think the Darkness is like a sickness, feeding on his desperate soul, and we wont see much change in his need of power until it is struck from him). Thoughts?

RUMPELSTILTSKIN: “I found you, Bae… and I PROMISE I’ll never use magic AGAIN!” *Meanwhile, Emma is off breaking the Curse, unleashing magic in Storybrooke* “Oh, look at that… totally not my doing… guess we’ll just have to live with the fact that I’m going to be super-special-awesome FOREVER…”

And is anyone else getting an iffy vibe off of the fairies? Like they are hiding something HUGE??? First they tell Grumpy that he has no chance in hell of EVER loving a fairy (and for creatures that promote dreams coming true and junk…that’s just… boo), and the blue fairy LIES when she says her kind does not lie (“A CURSE?” “…no!” “A-HA!”) and then fails to mention “if your daddy can find someone to love and earn their love in return, he will be free” instead of having this kid sacrifice EVERYTHING by jumping into a green vortex of doom into the unsafe, unknown. She just seemed in a mighty hurry to get Rumple out of FTW, no questions asked. I like shades of gray… and I think the fairies are in it! Any thoughts?

BLUE FAIRY: *singing* “When you wish upon a staaaar, Makes no difference who you are…” *Grumpy looking hopeful* “…Except you…” *Rumpel gives her the finger* “… and MOST CERTAINLY NOT YOU EITHER… in fact, how about we make two lines… all the losers who I deem shouldn’t have a happy ending over there… WAY over there…”

Belle Vs. Bae

Okay Okay, before yah’all get your panties in a whirl… don’t for a second believe that this is a “Belle Vs. Bae” debate… well… maybe it is… but it’s not a “RUMPLE LOVES BELLE MOAR or RUMPLE LOVES BAE MOar” tirade because it is not!

Everyone keeps talking about how “ah… “The Return” explains WHY Rumple shut Belle out” without even really diving much deeper into it. Yeah, he proclaims to the Blue Fairy he will “LOVE NOTHING” until he finds a way to find his son, and I agree that Belle almost taking his powers away with true love’s kiss would put a damper on his search when he is SO FREAKING CLOSE to finding him… buuuuuuut… there is oh so much more to this than we are giving it… (FOOD FOR THE RUMBELLERS!)

Okay, enough with the teasing and on to my main point: Rumple finally figures out what the curse is and what is required to enact it… and yet HE DOES NOT. Why? Why the heck not? He’s hell bent enough to KILL when Bae has a scratch on his knee, why not get the curse over and done with to reunite with his son. Oh yeah, that would require the heart of something “precious”… which he lacks. He is alone, no one could EVER love him, and thus he has hit a wall.

And then BELLE comes along… here we have two options. A.) He picked someone “precious” enough that could see through his darkness and find love within him for a housekeeper as an experiment… for eventual sacrifice (I do not like that theory and don’t agree with it), or B.), as he was discovering what the curse needed to become complete, he fought against his growing feelings for Belle because she would become the only thing in his life deemed as a fit, “precious” tribute to the curse (I imagine the Darkness within himself taunting him as Rumple tries so hard to overlook and ignore her advances of a friendship…only to save her!) And thus, an ultimatum is born: Enact the curse with the heart of the only woman who could ever love you to find your son, or spurn the hopes of a family reunion by protecting your true love.

Belle Vs. Bae… and the fact that (if I’m right) he couldn’t kill Belle, because it defeats everything his son stood for… and because of his own howling FEELS… he probably feels even more like a coward… that he was not willing to go all the way for the sake of his son, like in the Magic Bean scenario. Enough to, say, smash things in a fit of rage…MIXED TORMENTED FEELS. All the while the Darkness cackles at Rumple’s helplessness (but let’s face it… does the darkness REALLY want Rumple to succeed? Hex no! It doesn’t want to go to a land where it is powerless and silent… where’s the fun in that???) So then as Rumple sends Belle away in what SHE thinks is a coward’s path, he is actually demonstrating the most courage and sacrifice that his weary soul can manage…and takes the “why you suck” speech in silence.

And please… don’t tell me “Boo, he was mad because he felt betrayed because he thought she was consorting with the EQ and blah blah blah” PLEASE! He latched on to that excuse so quickly… it was surface level… like when he was coming up with all those excuses why NOT to jump into the green swirling vortex of doom (it’s okay, Rumple… I wouldn’t have done it either… it looked wicked creepy). He’s MAGIC, guiz. Don’t you think he could SENSE that the “true love’s kiss” was SINCERE? BECAUSE IT WAS FREAKING WORKING??? You’re telling he has CENTURIES of studies, observation, dabbling, knowledge, and gosh knows what else… but he’s a newb when it comes to the rules of TLK? I say good day to you sir. I SAID GOOD DAY!

So … he let’s Belle live… only to hear she DIED (though we all know better), goes through massive drinking phases, still plotting… but whhhhhy? Because he needs someone ELSE to enact the curse. Someone who can go THAT FAR. And what luck! It happens to be an evil bitch that everyone wants DEAD… so… what’s the harm? (which raises an interesting question: Has Rumples been primping Regina since her childhood to assume this role of Curse Catalyst… Step 1)Seek out desperate miller’s daughter Step 2)Save her ass in exchange for deals Step 3)Make her drunk and thirsty for power Step 4)Make sure she is a controlling mother as a result… and so on… WHO KNOWS. I can never tell with Rumple anymore. Complexity is his middle name…)

So with all this in mind… which mine is about ready to explode… Rumbelle… so SOOOOOO much more intricate than we could even imagine, and I would love to write a fanfiction that revisits “Skin Deep” with this perspective (with a few more scenes added of course; some major Curse Fails at the dark castle)…it would make for a tragic… but oh so delightful read. Plus, I can’t watch Robert Carlyle and without hesitation proclaim “HE’S SAD BECAUSE OF LOOOOOOVE”… there is just so much going on in his portrayal of Rumple that makes me feel that we haven’t even begun to scratch the SURFACE of his emotions.

RUMPELSTILTSKIN: “Silly dearies, this is but emotion 4,567 of my feels! GIGGLE!”

So chew on that, Rumbellers… if you haven’t already crossed this concept yet…

Called it. I Freaking called it!!! (OUAT SPOILERS)

As my mother and I sat on the couch, watching Mr. Gold’s tearful reunion with “Bae”, I suddenly sat up and said “Man, I really hope that IS Bae… or else he’s digging up the dagger for some random stranger… and possibly DANGEROUS stranger.” My mom was all “naaaah, it’s TOTALLY Bae, why you so negative?” Because Rumpelstiltskin is the ultimate happy-endingless woobie of the show and having August turn out to be Bae is just FAR to easy… and I’m also getting good at guessing the writer’s next move. But it’s still fun to go along for the ride…

I’m glad August is not Bae… he just annoys me. As SOON as the hot, scruffy, leather-jacketed sheriff was killed off, August is IMMEDIATELY there to replace him as the  hot, scruffy, leather-jacketed MYSTERIOUS MAN, full of mysterious mystery!!! That just annoyed me. And if he turns out to be Pinocchio that will be PERFECT… because I freaking hate that puppet and it’s disney movie.

Robert gave an EXCELLENT performance, as usual. Even though I had my suspicions of August… I still got teary at Mr. Gold’s break down in the forest. “My beautiful boy…” SIGH *fans away tears*

Oh, and Rumpel’s proclamation that he will never love anyone, when he’s talking to the blue fairy in the woods, I had to snicker… because he hadn’t met BELLE yet! Teehee. I love this show.
